In-patient Unit

St Benedict's Hospice in-patient unit is a specialist unit providing active treatment for the management of pain and other symptoms as well as respite and terminal care.

Many believe that patients are only admitted towards the very end of their life to be cared for until they die. This is not true - patients with a wide range of problems, including pain, sickness, breathing difficulties, and other distressing symptoms are regularly admitted.

Our staff, patients and their families/carers work together as a team with one shared aim: to provide individualised care whilst maintaining the dignity, privacy and freedom of informed choice for each patient. This specialist team consists of doctors, nurses, pharmacist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, dietician, chaplains, social workers, hairdresser, admin staff, domestics and volunteers. By working closely with the patient, their family and carers, we intend to overcome their problems, so they can return home if they wish, with health and social care to support them.
