Help Support St. Benedict's Hospice by purchasing their recently compiled CD 'Memories'
The idea for this CD came out of another project where we had been looking at our life stories through music. We discovered that lyrics had played a powerful part in our lives and so we decided we might try and write our own songs. Encouraged by a similar project from Trimar Hospice in Weymouth, we thought we'd give it a go.
After sharing out stories and putting them into lyric form, we approached Pete Robson, a local musician for his help in writing the music for the songs.
Each of the five day care groups has written a song. The words came from story telling; there was much laughter, some serious discussion and a few quiet moments. All the words of the songs are originally spoken by the people who come to the day care. They have not been polished or finely honed, making this CD a true account of those who were involved.
There has been great enthusiasm for the project; some gentle rivalry between the groups and a sustained interest as the project has developed.
One man, Alf, from the Tuesday Group, was asked to give us a line for a Christmas song. The result is 'Alf's Christmas', (more than a one liner).
