About St Benedict's
St. Benedict's Hospice, situated in Monkwearmouth Hospital, has been providing palliative care to the people of Sunderland and surrounding districts since 1984. The hospice was originally located at Havelock Hospital.
St. Benedict's Hospice is part of Sunderland Teaching Primary Care NHS Trust.
The hospice has 12 in-patient beds and a 12 place day care unit on site. Three medical consultants work within the service also providing palliative care advice and support to local hospitals and the community.
Although there are many other palliative care websites throughout the world, palliative care is not well understood. This is mainly because people do not tend to think about death and dying unless they have to.
This site aims to bridge that gap, by providing clear information about our work, general information, and links to other quality resources.
